Local 3217 Update

For weeks, IAFF Local 3217 has raised serious concerns about staffing, retention, fair compensation, and the lack of full collective bargaining rights at MWAA. These issues are real, and they are not going away.

Today, we want to be clear. The wheels are in motion.

Local 3217 is actively engaging the appropriate political and oversight entities to pursue meaningful change, including efforts to amend the MWAA charter so firefighters, medics, and other unionized employees have a real voice in decisions that affect their work and their families.

This is not talk. This is action.

At the same time, our members continue to do what they have always done. They show up, answer the call, and perform their duties with the highest level of professionalism, regardless of the challenges they face. The safety of the traveling public and our communities remains our top priority.

But professionalism alone cannot fix systemic problems.

We still need your support. From our members, our families, fellow unions, elected leaders, and the public we serve. Awareness, engagement, and solidarity matter, and they are essential to securing lasting change.

We are committed to solutions that strengthen retention, support our workforce, and protect public safety. We will continue to pursue those solutions through the proper channels, with facts, persistence, and resolve.

We will not quit. We will not go away. And we will not stop pushing for what public safety demands.

The momentum is building. The message is being heard. Local 3217 will continue to lead.
